IT Specialist Technical Bid Writer – Salary £45,000 to £55,000

The Role

This is a hybrid role. Although regular visits to our Plymouth HQ will be required, you will also be able to regularly work from your home office. You will be part of a multi-skilled team to deliver solutions to our clients predominantly based in the South-West but potentially elsewhere in the UK. Your role will be to write and review bid responses, coordinate the bid response process and develop and maintain a bid library. You will also identify ways to improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of the bid process.

Activities will include:

  • Writing compelling technical content with clarity and conciseness.
  • Ensuring accurate, high-quality bid contributions from all bid stakeholders.
  • Working with other bid team members to help them achieve the skills and confidence to write bid narrative themselves.
  • Being responsible for the quality of the technical aspects of each bid, ensuring the written documentation and presentations are technically accurate, clear, concise, and compelling.
  • Work with subject matter experts to produce new technical bid library content
  • Developing and writing all technical elements of tender proposals associated with framework opportunities and one-off major projects across the UK.
  • Creating new content and editing existing content, tailoring to suit client requirements.
  • Completing sector and client research to better inform bid responses.
  • Providing continuous management and development of the bid library.
  • Providing regular reports on individual tender progress.
  • Reviewing and editing proposal responses for consistency, compliance, win theme incorporation, solution accuracy, and other elements during regular and core team review cycles to create the final proposal submission.
  • Participating in post-tender feedback reviews and use lessons learned to undertake revision and improvements to answer texts

The Ideal Candidate

You can work under general direction and plan your own work. You will have writing experience in a technical field and have experience of software development and/or managing software development projects.

You are familiar with some of the following capabilities:  digital, data and technology strategy; enterprise, business and security architecture; solutions architecture and design; full stack development (Python, Node, Java, PHP, web technologies); customer facing and back office systems; API and database design and build; Intrastructure-as-Code; DevOps and automation; testing and security assurance.

You can collaborate confidently with team members, users, and our customers.  You can translate customer requirements into blueprints and loosely coupled architectures and articulate these effectively into written tender responses. You will communicate fluently, orally and in writing, and can present complex information to technical and non-technical audiences

You are team and action oriented and are proactive in prioritising your own workload and able to delegate to others.

It may be a requirement that you undertake UK security clearance (BPSS or SC).

Required Skills: 

  • Software development or managing software development experience (in a leadership or management capacity).
  • Excellent communicator.
  • A high attention to detail with an excellent editing and proofing ability.
  • Excellent literacy skills, with an extensive vocabulary.
  • Deadline driven with effective time management skills.
  • Thrive in a busy environment.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise workload.
  • Experience in the required business sector.
  • Proven bid team involvement.
  • Can demonstrate effective bid writing skills.

Desired Skills:

  • An understanding of Cloud development and deployment practices, particularly AWS and Azure.
  • Have worked in Professional Services with experience of Public Sector bidding.
