Met Office extends Rowe IT engagement on Weather DataHub

Met Office extends Rowe IT engagement on Weather DataHub
October 25, 2022 Ian Tomlinson

Since 2019 Rowe have been working alongside the Met Office to create an online portal to expose their world renowned model data. Weather DataHub currently processes ¾ million API requests and ships well over 1.5 TB of data per day with volumes growing month on month.

Weather DataHub is a self-service portal allowing customers to manage their weather data subscriptions and the specific data sets they require. Customers can subset atmospheric model data by customised region, parameter, model run and timesteps so that they only process and pay for the data they require. Global spot (location based) data forecasts and UK weather map images are also available through the expanding list of Met Office products distributed via the portal.

The Met Office has renewed its collaboration with Rowe for a further three years within a Met Office ‘Delivery Partnership’ Framework as the Weather DataHub transforms into the one-stop shop for all Met Office data. Plans are already in place to extend the map capabilities and increase the spot and gridded probabilistic data availability leveraging new Met Office science models. Observations and additional models will be added as Weather DataHub evolves into a full customer facing Digital Marketplace.

Rowe will provide architectural and technical leadership alongside development and business analysis capability within an expanded and blended Met Office team.

Met Office Project Manager, Mike Stitfall, congratulates Rowe on their successful bid for this work, following a comprehensive tender process and looks forward to the next evolution of the Met Office’s digital channels to market.

Rowe is proud to continue to work with the Met Office to enable extraordinary impact and benefit through innovative change.
